Jacob (Jake) Toroney, PE, has been named a Principal in our Towson, Maryland office.
As a structural engineer registered in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C., Jake has been involved in the design and analysis of projects involving structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, fiberglass, and timber materials for 16 years, including 13 with MRA.
Jake is in charge of managing all phases of structural engineering projects, as well as quality control. He is also responsible for mentoring new structural engineers in the firm and introducing new technologies to the firm’s structural design capabilities. Jake has managed and provided design and construction services for a wide variety of project types including bridges, institutional, residential, retail, libraries, warehouse facilities and telecommunication facilities. In the telecommunications industry, he has developed designs for installations on towers, monopoles, rooftops, chimneys, church steeples, water tanks, stadiums, and in-building systems, to name a few.
He earned his Masters of Civil Engineering from Johns Hopkins in 2008, and his Bachelor of Science in Structural Design and Construction Engineering Technology from Penn State Harrisburg in 2005. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Institute of Steel Construction, and Maryland DC Wireless Association.
Jake also has an extensive background in construction and holds a MHIC contractor’s license. His construction background complements his formal education by introducing a contractor’s perspective while developing a design solution. This knowledge aids in communicating with contractors and troubleshooting field issues during construction.
